Who Did You Tell About Your Pregnancy?

I think most people have at least one close friend or family member they told about their pregnancy long before they announced it to the world at large. But have you also told a fairly random person about your pregnancy, either because you were bursting to tell SOMEONE or because circumstances just made it necessary?

Last year, just a few weeks after I found out I was pregnant, I went in for my annual eye exam. The doctor sat down in his swivel chair and said, “Do you have any concerns about your eyesight? Any changes since last year?”

And because I’d experienced so much change in my vision with my first pregnancy, I felt like I needed to tell him I was pregnant again. He said, “Wow, you don’t even look pregnant,” and I told him, “That’s because I’m barely pregnant. My Mom doesn’t even know yet!”

Another of my friends had her secret spilled early when she was leaving her doctor’s appointment and ran into a neighbor just coming in for hers.

Here are a few other bloggers sharing who was the first to know about their pregnancy:

  • “The ONLY reason I bought a pregnancy test was because suddenly one day my son started acting super clingy and would cry and only want me (he was 3.5 years old) and he had never been like that before. I mean, he was just a little monster. The woman at day care asked if I was pregnant. I said “no why?” and she said sometimes children can tell, they sense something (similar to the sense dogs have) different. So I did a test and it was positive. Then when I told him I had a baby in my tummy he said, “I know mami, it’s a girl” And it was. Pure coincidence maybe, but my preschooler sensed I was pregnant before I knew I was!” – María José Ovalle of Very Busy Mama
  • “The same thing happened with me! My eye doctor knew I was pregnant because I became dizzy and blacked out from the constant changes of the lens while checking my vision.  “Is this better? Or this? A? Or B?”  Neither! Get me out of here!” – Amnah Ibrahim of This Little Life of Mine
  • “During my pregnancy, especially the early part, Subway was one of the few things I could keep down (until I ate it so much I was tired of it). I would always get a veggie sandwich. The first time I went I asked the lady making the sandwiches to please change her gloves because I couldn’t eat cold cuts and she touched some. I had read and heard horror stories and was already so nervous. She looked at me strangely so I smiled and told her I was pregnant. She whispered to a coworker, smiled, and changed her gloves.” – Krishann Briscoe of His Mrs. Her Mr.
  • “The first person I told was the teacher’s assistant who worked in my classroom. Not super random, but we found out on a Monday morning and I hadn’t told anyone else and was just bursting!” – Lauren Hartmann of The Little Things We Do
