It’s funny, you learn a lot about yourself when your baby starts to talk. There was a time (ok, maybe more than one time) when I was frustrated with my boys, and I started to yell. My baby girl, “Pink”, started mock screaming and giggling. It took me out of the moment and made me realize that she — and her older brothers — are learning how to communicate by watching me. (It also showed me that I’m going to have my hands full when she’s a teenager, but that’s another story.)
While I’m far from perfect, I do think about what I want my kids to hear. I say, “I love you!” all day long. I give genuine compliments to my kids when they deserve them. We sing fun songs together. Sure, I still yell more than I should, but I do try to ensure that they hear happiness and love throughout our house.
So the other day, when I heard Pink — who loves to sing — writing her own little song, I couldn’t have been happier. It went a little something like this…
Baby doll, baby doll.
Happy, happy, happy.
Happy baby doll.
Baby, I love you.
Love you, happy, happy.
I mean, I may be jumping the gun a bit, but does anyone know how to nominate someone for a Grammy? Because I’m pretty sure it was the best song I’ve ever heard.
Have you ever heard your baby say something that melted your heart?
