My two-year-old baby boy has been playing with our iPad since he was barely a toddler. Ever since he could move his little finger across the screen (since around the age of 1), he’s been able to navigate his way through the iPad. Amazingly, he could get himself to our movie streaming app and load his favorite TV shows. It helped that he observed his older sister using the iPad to read books, draw, play games, and watch shows. He quickly learned!

Now, he does many more things on the iPad and enjoys a variety of toddler-friendly apps we have for him to use. A recent good find was the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Road Rally appisode. It’s an interactive episode of one his favorite shows – Mickey Mouse Clubhouse! Not only can he view the episode, but he can interact as he watches, responding to cues, and even talking to the characters. Pretty cool, right?!
This app is technically designed for ages 3 and up, but my two-year-old has been enjoying it and I think he would have also if we had found it when he was younger. With a little help from either his big sister, my husband, or myself, he can respond appropriately to the questions and interact with the app. He actually does a lot of it on his own, but since he’s still learning about colors, shapes, and such, he sometimes needs guidance on what to click. However, watching the episode is a great activity all on its own for him!
We don’t mind that our toddler spends a little time on the iPad, especially when there are so many great educational apps out there. We like playing along with him and take the opportunity to cuddle on the couch together!
