Real Party Inspiration: A Love Themed First Birthday

Just because Valentine’s Day is over doesn’t mean that the love has to stop! A love-themed birthday party is such an adorably sweet idea and I love this one that Jenn Pierce of Monkey & Squirrel put together for her daughter Penny’s first birthday and so sweetly let me share. Check out all the LOVE-ly details (sorry…I just couldn’t help myself!).

  • The focal point

    The focal point

This was the party’s focal point – the buffet area and Jenn did a lovely job. The hearts hanging from the ceiling and walls, the streamers and little details like red and white striped straws all help to bring Penny’s birthday theme together.

  • Tableware

Tableware is the best way to bring in your party’s theme and Jenn did just that with pink and red tableware, striped straws and mixed patterns. I love the simple DIY she did to the mason jars by spraying gold spray paint on them. Instantly makes the set-up feel more special.

  • LOVE-ly little details

Another little detail shot showing how Jenn brought in the hearts/love theme with a heart printed napkin and if you peek closely you’ll see another genius but simple DIY – a gold, glitter-dipped mason jar. So cute!

  • The spread

    The spread

All kinds of yummy treats filled the table and I love that Jenn continued her theme with small little details like the heart doilies and pink cupcake wrappers. It’s the little things that make a big difference.

  • Double duty drinks

Drinks are another easy way to bring in your color scheme and Jenn did it using pretty bottles of pink lemonade and storing her other beverages in a pretty tin bucket.

  • Big balloon

    Big balloon

No need to get elaborate with the high chair set up for your little one’s party – just tie on a jumbo balloon in your party’s color scheme and you’ve got a lovely and unique decorative element that will look perfect in cake-eating photos. Penny seems like she’s a fan of the giant red balloon too.

  • Favors

Finally, Jenn put together these simple but sweet favor bags for guest. To get the look simple fill paper lunch sacks with your chosen favors and fold – add a folded doily over the top and clip it together with a decorated (or plain!) clothespin. Voila! The final piece to the birthday party puzzle!
