Real Party Inspiration: A Fairy Tale Birthday

Recently Fern and I attended a birthday party for my friend Echo’s little girl. She loves all things princess, but instead of simply going the typical princess route, she got creative and opted for a fairytale theme. This satisfied her daughter’s love of princesses without having to make the event overly frilly. All of the details that were taken into consideration were lovely, and while this was a 4th birthday party, I definitely think the theme and decor would be appropriate for even younger children, so I wanted to share! Hope this provides you with a bit of birthday party inspiration!

This was the focal table at the party and was filled with delicious food and lovely little fairy tale woodland details.

  • Close-Up

Decor was pulled from items that my friend already had – little woodland figurines, mushrooms, pinecones – as well as easily crafted items like craft paper banners stamped with the birthday various messages. She made these pretty tissue paper pom poms and had a friend make this amazing cake.

  • Details

I loved these little wooden signs that Echo made and used throughout the party. She signs were purchased from a craft store and then stamped with her own alphabet stamps.

  • Hedgehog Donut Holes

The most adorable little woodland creature treats – donut holes with strategically placed chocolate sprinkles. Too cute!

  • Fairytale Flag Donuts

Donuts were a simple treat, made special with washi tape flags on barbecue skewers.

  • Kettlecorn

Kettlecorn in paper bags made for perfectly kid-friendly snacks that kept messes contained. Plus they were a cute and simple way to incorporate the craft paper that was a theme throughout.

  • Forest Friends

A wooden crate was filled with stuffed forest friends for the little guests to play with. A lovely touch that my own little one was quite enamored with.

  • Chalkboard Numbers

Chalkboards were used throughout to write special birthday messages for the birthday girl. It was a great way for Echo to use what she had already on hand and make it work as party decor.

  • Chalkboard Wall

Another use of chalkboards – a fairy tale castle drawn on a chalkboard wall was a perfect addition.

  • Costumes

The most fun part of this fairytale birthday party was the fact that all the little guests were asked to come dressed in fairytale attire. Fern was a fairy princess and her friend Poppy was the cutest little kitty.

  • Make Your Own Mask

There was a make your own mask station that was quite a hit with the older children.

  • Birthday Girl's Chair

A special little corner was arranged for the birthday girl to open presents and was a sweet little added detail to the party.
