If you’re looking for a fun theme for your little one’s 1st birthday party, why not give Alice in Wonderland’s Mad Hatter Tea Party a go?
It’s a really fun theme, just perfect for any kind of party — particularly birthday and baby showers. We did it for Abby’s 2nd birthday this past weekend, and the cupcakes were the hit of the party!
Everyone asked me how I made the cupcake toppers and commented on how easy it sounded once I told them, so I decided to share my little DIY project with the lovely readers at DB! Plus, you’ll get the link for the recipe belonging to those delicious-looking cupcakes too…

Good scissors, long toothpicks, an extra-fine Sharpie and fabric tape are all that you’ll need for this project. It’s as simple as cutting lengths (as long as the words you want to print, doubled over) of the fabric tape on an angle.
Next, fold the tape over the toothpick. This can be a bit finicky, as you want everything to line up and for there to be no sharp point on the end of the toothpick showing. Write ‘eat me’, on each. Fancy script not required. Keep this simple — they look lovely as is plucked into bright and colourful icing.
Pluck and display – ready to be devoured. I have several tiered cupcake and cake platters which nestle together quite nicely for larger cupcake centrepieces like this.
Do that. You and your guests. Young and old.
