Why is it, as parents, that we are constantly in search of the perfect toy, the perfect activities and outings to engage our little ones in?
I know I’m guilty of it.
Yesterday I was once agan reminded to just stop. Breathe. To take in the simplicity of it all. To stop making everything so difficult. There’s a time and place for organized play, free play, and going to the zoo.
What’s the one thing that you can do with your kids everyday that doesn’t cost any money and that will have them grinning from ear to ear? Something they won’t ever tire of?
Why taking them outside of course. For babies especially, everything outside is so full of wonder. The sidewalk. That leaf. That rock. Those birds and that squirrel. The bark on that tree. Your neighbour’s dog. If they’ve just begun walking – they will absolutely rejoice in running around in wide open spaces. Clearly.
It’s as simple as that. Plunk them into the stroller or your sling/carrier and take a walk right outside your door, around your neighbourhood. You don’t even have to go to the park. There is so much for them to see and experience and the fresh air calms them, refreshes them – especially this time of year. It’ll probably do you some good too.
