I gave my daughter an Alice in Wonderland themed birthday party based on the animated 1951 feature. It’s a whimsical theme that appeals to children and adults alike and you can really get creative with the party decorations, food and special outfit for the birthday boy or girl!
Set the Tone of the Theme with a Personalized Invitation
An invitation will remind your guests, “Don’t be late for a very important date!” Set the tone and theme of the party with an adorable birthday party invite. I love these gorgeous Disney invites from Paperless Post. There are several Alice in Wonderland designs to choose from and you can have them sent via email to easily keep track of RSVPs. You can even add a photo of the birthday boy or girl to your design!
Games That Will Make them Giggle
Though Baby might not be ready for birthday party games yet, there are sure to be a few older kids at the party who would enjoy playing. Fill plastic teacups with water and see who can walk across the yard without spilling a drop. Musical chairs around the tea party table would also be appropriate for this theme! Or play “pin the grin” on an image of the Cheshire Cat.
Food They’ll Go “Mad” For
Your guests will be ready to “Eat Me” and “Drink Me” so be sure to have plenty of bite-sized foods on hand! Consider tea party fare to serve with tastes that will please everyone. Tiny foods like baby corn and carrots, bite sized quiche, and hamburger sliders keep tummies happy. Add some sweets like mini muffins, doughnut holes and cake pops to put everyone in a cheery mood.
I made sugar cookies for our party shaped like mushrooms and flowers and decorated them with royal icing for party guests to nibble. I also found teacup cupcake toppers online.
Tea would be the drink of choice so choose a cold fruity version without caffeine for little guests. Or pink flamingo punch made from pink lemonade and crushed raspberries!
Whimsical Party Décor
A bright and bold mix of colors will set the stage for your “mad tea party.”
Choose tablecloths, plates, napkins, utensils and cups in different colors of the rainbow to fit the wild theme. Paper lanterns strung above the table add just the right amount of whimsy and are reflective of the tea party in the movie. Make everyone a Mad Hatter with this clever craft: Give each guest a tiny top hat they can decorate with glue, sequins, ribbons and feathers.
Or scatter a deck of cards onto the table tops and go with a black, white and red theme that even the Queen of Hearts would approve of!
Wonderful Outfits for the Birthday Baby
Tiny Alice will be pleasantly comfortable in one of these precious styles. Choose from the bodysuit and tutu combination or top and floral pant set, both featuring an image of Alice. The sweet character details in silk screen and appliqué add to the fanciful theme. Comfy cottons with diaper-accessible snaps make these party clothes not only look adorable but they’re practical as well!
