When it comes to baby gear, it’s hard to know what you really need. Head into any baby store and the sheer amount of options that exist for bottles and car seats and swings just might make your head spin.
Over time, I’ve learned that it really all comes down to the personal preferences of babies and their parents. While one mama might consider her baby swing to be a lifesaver, another whose baby didn’t appreciate it might have thought it mostly a waste of space. It’s all relative.
That said, we all feel that certain items seem to prove their value to us time and time again. And for me, that item was my play yard.
Play yards don’t get a lot of recognition, but they are seriously SO versatile! Here are just a few of the reasons we loved ours.
1. Made it easy to room-in during the newborn stage
When our babies were newborns, we could simply move the play yard into our room and were able to have our babies right at arm’s reach.
2. All-in-one convenience
Most play yards (like this Mickey Mouse one) can do it all, because they offer a changing table, bassinet, play area, sleep area and storage area all in one! What more could you ask for?
Shelves for storing diapers, ointments, receiving blankets, and bodysuits for quick changes were all right where I needed them!
Our play yard mobile was a great distraction during diaper changes, and it also doubled as a safe place for our littles to play while I cooked meals or while we were out in the backyard. Great for fun and sleep!
5. Perfect for travel
A play yard makes sleeping on-the-go at friends and family’s houses or while traveling was seamless. It’s also great for giving your baby a place to play in the event that you end up staying somewhere that isn’t completely baby proofed.
What was your can’t-live-without, hand-down, most favorite baby item?
