10 Great Reasons to Take Your Baby Apple Picking

We are going through that funny transitional phase with the weather here in Ontario. The mornings are cold and crisp while the afternoons usually warm up to summer temperatures. It’s still gorgeous enough to spend lots of time outdoors without worrying about the kids catching a chill. I was planning on taking the kids apple picking at the end of September, but after calling the organic orchard, I was told that the apple season had started early this year and would be ending just as early as a result. So of course I packed up all three of my kids and set out on a road trip!

Looking for something to do this weekend? Here are 10 reasons why I highly recommend taking your baby apple picking this season!

  • Family Time!

    Family Time!

Apple picking is great for kids and adults of all ages. There is no age minimum or limit for this activity and it’s a great way to bring everyone together. While visiting we saw many families with aunts, uncles and grandparents, having a ball!

  • Fresh Air

Pull up the stroller or wagon and let your little one go to town. Picking apples is great for hand-eye coordination and once they’ve picked it, they have a sweet reward to ‘taste test’. ;).

There is plenty of soft grass and wide open space for older babies to practice their walking skills. Just make sure you are close by for little ‘whoopsies’.

Supporting your local farms is better for your community and the environment.

Apple picking is just plain fun. Fun for all that is ;).

The closest apple orchard to us is actually an organic one located in a small town just 2 hours from Toronto. We got there just as they were opening in the morning, picked up our wagon, and picked so many apples that I am now wondering what I can possibly make to use them all up. A good time was had by all, including my 12-month-old son who had an absolute blast!
