On Bathing Your Newly Newborn

When Huck was still so teeny tiny, my mom taught me a little trick for bathing his fresh little body. I’m so happy to share it with you!

The nurses are right: Freshly born babies do not need to be bathed very often. Their skin is so new and soft and delicate, and too much water can be harsh and drying. So my mother swore by lotion baths for all four of her babies when they were only barely weeks old.

Simply take a very soft, warm wet cloth, and carefully and gently wipe your little baby from head to toe. Then warm a small amount of your favorite baby lotion between your hands and massage into Baby’s skin. Clean and perfect as could be. Next, diaper and swaddle and kiss that baby all over. Pretty simple, right? Now, somebody hand me a fresh baby, I’m feeling broody!
