For the most part, I absolutely love being pregnant. Once I get past the fatigue and sickness of the first trimester, I usually feel pretty good and do indeed feel like I have the “glow” that everyone is always talking about. But once the third trimester creeps in, I start to lose a bit of that glowing feeling and need a little extra help to feel beautiful. Whether you just need some help getting through the last few weeks, or need little pick-me-ups throughout your pregnancy, here are 10 surefire ways I’ve found to help me feel beautiful through all three of my pregnancies.
Buy and Wear Something Fun and Sparkly
Throw caution to the wind and buy yourself a dress that just makes you feel fantastic, even if it may not be the most practical clothing purchase you’ll ever make. For me, it was a sequin dress that made me feel like a million bucks during my maternity photo shoot. I may not get a lot of use out of it, but I can always pass it on to a friend or sell it.
Make a Fabulous Statement
Just a few days ago I felt tired, achy and was in a bit of a funk, but I had to get out of the house for my check-up. So I threw on some fuchsia lipstick and a huge bright pink organza flower, and I suddenly felt sassy and fabulous. When in doubt, I always try to remember the motto “look good feel good!” All day I got compliments on my big pink flower.
Brighten Up Your Lips
Many days in the past few weeks I’ve felt hot and sticky and just plain tired, and the last thing I want to do is spend time putting on a face full of makeup. But I’ve found that a quick application of a bright red lipstick always makes me feel a bit more put together and perks me up right away.
Get Your Makeup Done
So you don’t feel like actually doing your makeup yourself, but you still want to look your best? Take a morning to get your makeup done. And this doesn’t even have to cost a thing! Most makeup counters at department stores have eager and willing makeup artists that are always ready to apply a face full of makeup on a willing participant, for free.
Have a Date Night
After you get your makeup done, spend some time with your significant other. Go on a date and enjoy each other’s company before baby comes along. For me, nothing feels better than spending time with my husband, and nothing makes me feel prettier than him doting on me. Having his undivided attention, without the distraction of work calls or needy kids, always leaves me feeling beautiful and special.
Get a Workout In
If you’re feeling up to it, getting to the gym for even a short workout revs up those endorphins and leaves you feeling accomplished and powerful. Make a date of it to stay fit and healthy together, and your recovery time postpartum may be that much easier too!
Get a Manicure and Pedicure
You’ll soon have lots of pictures of you holding your new baby, so treat yourself to a manicure, especially right before your due date. In your pictures you may look a bit tired, but at least your hands will look fabulous holding that baby!
Get a Blowout
I love the new concept of the blowout – a simple and affordable alternative to getting your hair styled at your usual salon. No appointments to mess with, just walk in and get pampered for a reasonable cost, and leave feeling radiant. I plan to get a blowout the day before my due date, if I make it that far!
About 3 weeks ago my belly reached the size that no longer allowed me fit into any of my pajamas without feeling a bit silly. So I bought this affordable transitional nightie, which serves as a postpartum/nursing gown, but is forgiving in size so it fits my pregnant body just perfectly. I have never felt prettier getting my pajamas on at night and I was kicking myself for not buying this small purchase earlier on!
Indulge In A Spa Day
When in doubt, a good old trip to the spa will always leave you feeling prettier. Order up a facial to get your glow back, or just ease tired muscles with a prenatal massage. Whatever you choose though, you can’t help but feeling a bit better after being pampered at the spa.
