Today I am thrilled (yes thrilled!) to share with you one of the most darling celebrations I have seen in a long time. In fact, I adored this celebration so much that I reached out to Kiira of Eye Heart Pretty Things to ask her if she would be willing to share it with all of you. She kindly said yes, and as a result today I get to share some photos of the Farmers Market themed celebration she put together in celebration of her son Judah’s first birthday. Not only was the décor comprised of DIY items, and online, chain, thrift store, and garage sale finds — but it was done on a budget! Kiira had wanted to have a “festive BBQ” for her son’s first birthday, and found inspiration in the Farmers Markets that California summers are known for. Take a look at some of the photos from a party that proves there is more to a sweet celebration than just the birthday cake:
A Farmers Market 1st Birthday Party
Take a look at photos from this darling summer 1st birthday celebration inspired by farmers markets!
A festive spread
This food spread looks delicious and features many food items synonymous with farmers markets. The addition of burlap, galvanized metals, and handmade banners adds to the adorable theme.
This spread offers a variety of fun and flavorful treats! The details here are charming: a utensil holder, a small paper bag filled with potato chips, and even a berry basket.
How cute are the egg cartons filled with cupcakes?
Not only is a farmers market theme darling, but it makes incorporating healthy food options like fresh fruits and vegetables into the celebration simple – they go with the décor!
Kiira made this banner and most of the party DIYs, including the potato chip bags and food labels, using brown Kraft paper and paper bags from Trader Joes! An old gardening calendar featuring fruit and vegetable graphics was also used to create different aspects of the party décor.
These little partygoers are too cute and the paper straws are a simple yet fun touch.
The birthday boy
Kiira’s adorable son Judah looked ready to enjoy his birthday cake.
Time for cake!
Another picture of little Judah. Does it get any sweeter than babies and birthday cake?
The birthday cake
Kiira didn’t have a chance to bake the cake from scratch, but from the looks of the previous two photos, Judah didn’t mind. The cake and cupcakes turned out perfectly and went great with the theme.
A farmers market favorite served in handmade paper cones.
The vintage nod is perfect, tying in with the various details of the party. The red gingham liners are a nice touch and were made using a template.
Kiira found creative ways to store party staples such as plates and cutlery. She also collected cans in various sizes for months and found labels online which she printed and glued onto them.
A summertime favorite cleverly displayed and chilled in a wheelbarrow.
Berries in baskets
The turquoise berry baskets add a nice pop of color — not to mention they are quite cute!
The flowers used in the décor were wild flowers from the gardens of friends. To make tablecloths, Kiira bought fabric and cut it. The frayed edges worked with the theme and she saved money by not buying traditional tablecloths.
A special thank you to Kiira for sharing her son’s first birthday celebration. You can see more photos on her blog Eye Heart Pretty Things as well as learn how you can recreate some of the party décor for your own little one’s celebration.
