8 Things That Food Allergy Parents Want From You
In honor of Food Allergy & Asthma Awareness Week, I’ve invited Brooke to post today sharing her thoughts as a parent of a little daughter with severe food allergies. Feeding Beck is hard enough – I can’t imagine also having to consider allergies. Thank you to Brooke for sharing her tips on how to be considerate to parents of children with food allergies.
I’ve had moms sit beside me in music group saying how sorry they are about my daughter’s food allergies, then pull out a granola bar with nuts and let their child crawl around with it, trailing nut-filled crumbs behind. Their heart really is in their words, and they are thoughtful – they just can’t have the thoughts of an Allergy Parent. So, forgive me for grabbing at my first opportunity, but with Food Allergy & Asthma Awareness Week at hand, I’d love to share with other parents the 8 things that Food Allergy parents want from you.
Thoughts from a Parent of a Child with Food Allergies
In honor of Food Allergy & Asthma Awareness Week, I’ve invited Brooke to post today sharing her thoughts as a parent of a little daughter with severe food allergies. Feeding Beck is hard enough – I can’t imagine also having to consider allergies. Thank you to Brooke for sharing her story so I’m more aware.
Ever since Matt Damon played that hard-to-catch ex-assassin Jason Bourne, I have wished for such specialized skills. It’s awesome that he no sooner enters a room than he has observed every detail pertinent to his survival. Then he whoops up on everybody who’s out to get him!
Unfortunately, since my daughter was diagnosed with three severe food allergies a year ago, I have had to hone those same skills.
The mind of a Food Allergy Mom can be a hectic place. When she enters a room, she tries to maintain a look of ease and comfort for her child, be a good listener while greeting her friends, all while surveying the room for potential threats.
Okay, there’s a sippy cup of milk sitting on the floor, a kid with an unidentified brown substance smeared across his face (please, God, don’t let it be peanut butter), crumbs under the table (wheat? Most definitely. Containing egg? Probably.)
10 Adorable Custom Family Portraits
About four years ago I commissioned a custom portrait for my husband and it’s still my favorite art piece in our house. But without Beck in the picture, it’s looking a bit outdated. So I’ve been looking around to commission another portrait (maybe for a Father’s Day gift?) and there are so many great ones to choose from, it’s hard to decide. Here are some of my favorites.
A Colorful 1st Birthday
I always get excited when Casey is planning a party because I know the results will be amazing. The celebration she put together for her son Asher’s first birthday is no exception. With a subtle circus theme and a dose of color, it’s a great example of how to throw a stylish party without spending too much time or money and focusing on what’s most important – the birthday kid of course!
