The Birth of a Mother

There’s a beautiful quote from the spiritual leader Osho (also know as Rajneesh) that goes like this:

“The moment a child is born, the mother is also born. She never existed before. The woman existed, but the mother, never. A mother is something absolutely new.”

I love it for its profound, yet simple truth. Motherhood has transformed all that I am. The birth of my firstborn brought about a newness to life and to my role in this world. This Mother’s Day, I celebrate and reflect on all that Motherhood has given me…

My 14-Month-Old Isn't Walking, and That's Okay

Ingrid is now 14 months old. She’s happy as ever. She’s getting into everything. She loves to play and sing and clap. She even has several words she’s saying regularly like, “mama,” “dada,” “cat,” “oh no,” and “I you” (I love you). But you know what she’s not doing? Walking.

My first daughter took her first steps right around 12 months, but wasn’t officially walking until about 13 months. I’ve gotten the comments. The “I can’t believe she’s not walking yet!” and the “have you asked the doctor about it?” I have friends whose babies walked at 9 months and who are now climbing rock walls (kid you not!) as my little Ingrid hurriedly crawls across the room.
