If You Could Put Anything on Your Registry, What Would It Be?

“A dream is a wish your heart makes when you’re fast asleep.” – Cinderella

Every mother dreams of creating a warm, comfortable nest for her baby. Of showering her baby with essentials — love and support and yes, diapers! — prior to her arrival. Of giving her future child the moon and the stars, whether that means a lovely, calming nursery or a college fund legacy.

But sometimes, our wildest dreams need a boost. A helping hand. A fairy godmother, if you will.

The Unforgettable Lesson We Learned After Her 1st Christmas

Bee’s first Christmas flew by for us, mainly because we were still in survival mode of nursing, (not) sleeping and adjusting to our newfound parenthood status. We bypassed a lot of activities, opting instead to stay in and hole up with holiday movies and hot cocoa. It was surprisingly relaxing, and sweet, and we savored that first year together so much – just the three of us.

6 Questions We Considered Before Adoption

This is part of our ongoing adoption story; read last week’s post right here!

Indeed, Pinocchio said it best, “Always let your conscience be your guide.” Yet sometimes, our conscience needs a bit of poking, prodding. Prompting. As was the case with our adoption, I wanted to be sure my head and heart were as in sync as possible, so I spent many hours researching, reading and pondering whether adoption was the right decision for our family. (I’m happy to report that it, 100%, is!)

Whether you’re supporting a friend going through adoption or are pursuing the path yourselves, I thought it might be helpful to share a few questions we considered before taking the leap!

Our First Holiday Season with Baby

Pre-kids, I was never one for the holiday hustle and bustle. The idea of braving traffic, snowy roads and frenetic crowds seemed more messy than merry and – year after year – we opted for a quiet holiday season at home. A crackling fire, mug of cocoa, and stack of Christmas movies pretty much capped off the extent of our celebratory traditions.

And then, along came Bee. And almost instantaneously, the holiday season was suddenly that much more special. That much more memorable. That much more magical.
