Why I'm Grateful for Hiring a Professional Newborn Photographer

It’s no secret that I love pictures. They’re there to remind us of memories partially forgotten. To give us a glimpse back at some of the most important moments in our lives.

I am guilty of taking too many pictures — it’s true. However, looking back at my years as a mother, I realize that the time my children actually have the least pictures is when they are newborns. Do you blame me? I’m weary from birthing those beautiful babes of mine, and the last thing on my mind is to take more pictures than my memory card can store. I’ll snap a couple here and there, then pick a nap over a photo shoot.

This time, I wanted to capture the sweetness of those early days without adding another task to my to-do list, so I hired a professional photographer.

Prior to having my baby, I scheduled an outdoor family photo shoot with a long time family friend, Hala Hyatt. I was so blown away by how gorgeous the pictures were, that I approached her with the idea of taking my home birth delivery pictures. I was thrilled when she agreed! It would be her first venture into birth photography. When she sent me the pictures, my husband and I were moved to tears! She captured the birth so beautifully. It was as if I was reliving the experience all over again, minus the pain! All that being said, it was an obvious decision to hire her to do a newborn session as well.

When she told me the newborn session would take three hours, I thought she was exaggerating. How could it possibly take so long to photograph a sweet little, sleepy baby? Sleepy?? Not Amani! I nursed her at least four to six times to lull her back to sleep. There were even moments when Hala held Amani in her arms and gently helped her drift off to sleep. There were so many times when I just wanted to close up shop, but all the while Hala remained calm and collected. That’s exactly why I’m grateful to have hired a photographer. I would have missed out on the precious fleeting moments again.

For the first time, I have a gorgeous photography collection of my newborn baby. The pictures are beautiful and capture Amani perfectly. I love them all and struggle to pick a favorite. Being able to hire a photographer is a luxury that I am truly grateful to have invested in.
