Have you ever had one of those days when you tucked your baby into bed and then collapsed in heap of failure? It was as if not a single thing you did would be the right choice, the right word, the right path. The whole world conspired against you, you’re just sure of it.
Then this is for you.
Whether this is your first baby or your fifth, if you are anything like me you could often use some encouragement. So let me tell you this: When you wake up tomorrow, sit up in bed and before you do anything else say (maybe out loud, if you’re really wild and crazy):
“Today is a new day.”
Feel every inch of that sunshine in the window, every moment of quiet before baby wakes (or as you feed him, if he is already awake!) and every cold tile of the bathroom floor. Notice every little stray baby hair or curl and lock eyes with your baby if you can. Recall the sacred moments of just you and your tiny one, how fleeting they are, how far away just a day ago is already. Or a week or a month ago.
And then remember that you are courageous. You woke up, you started the day, this new day, and you’re going to do it all over again. Even though yesterday felt like failure – today is NEW. Just showing up is your anthem right now, and that’s ok.
Brush off yesterday, replace what was with what is. A chance to begin again.
