The Sweetest Adoption Ceremony Photos

I think adoption is truly beautiful. It is something that I hope to be able to be a part of one day through adopting a child of our own and something that I love seeing others do. Recently my friend Jenna and her husband Stephen went through the adoption process and I loved seeing their journey from afar via Facebook. It was so sweet seeing photos of them bringing home their sweet, little Bennett and watching them grow into a little family. A few weeks ago the process was finalized and they “officially” became Bennett’s parents forever and they had photographer Sarah Williams there to capture their sweet adoption ceremony; a lovely idea and something I hadn’t seen before. Even though they had already been parents for months, I thought this was a sweet way to commemorate their journey of adoption and they were gracious enough to let me share some of the photos here with you all.

Documenting Bennett’s adoption ceremony was important to Jenna and Stephen because they wanted to “…celebrate and remember the day we legally became a family. Adoption is beautiful but comes from a beginning of heartbreak even in the best of situations. Some day Bennett will have lots of questions about his story and I am glad he has picture from the ceremony to help him understand how special he is to us and how blessed we are that he made us parents.”

I love the way these photos tell a story from beginning to end starting with a shot of the family in front of the courthouse.

“During the ceremony, the judge asked us questions to get to know us and our new roles as parents. When he officially declared us Bennett’s parents I felt joy, relief and even sadness for Bennett’s birth parents. Knowing we became a family because of someone else made the decision to place their child with us was humbling.”

Jenna says, “We started the adoption process not knowing what to expect. After a relatively short wait, we were matched with our birth family and grew to love them and respect their courageous decision. We had the joy of meeting our son in the hospital shortly after he was born. It was love at first sight! Bennett is a healthy, curious, joyful baby who already keeps us on our toes!”
