The Magic of Elvie’s 2nd Christmas

Baby’s first Christmas is certainly something to celebrate, whether your baby is brand new or nearing a first birthday. We adored celebrating Christmas with Elvie last year, and I thought it couldn’t get any better, but it turns out that this Christmas was even more magical. She is so much more aware of everything now, and her joy radiates in a way it didn’t before. She knew what was happening this year, and she was just so very excited about it. Elvie’s sense of wonder this year reminded me of Zinashi the first year she was with us at Christmas. It’s as if a door to something new has been opened, and our children approach it with amazement. I took a ton of photos Christmas morning; it seemed that every moment was worth capturing. Today I sat down and gathered together my favorites. Here is Elvie’s second Christmas morning, in photos.

  • The 2nd Christmas was more magical than the 1st.

Elvie had tons more fun this Christmas than last Christmas. We spent the morning opening presents and noshing on a platter of chocolate babka, and it was just perfect.

We bought special Christmas pajamas, and we already had the Santa hat, which Elvie put on before we went out to see what was in the living room.

  • It's a BABY!

Both girls got dolls for Christmas, and Elvie was excited about her new baby.

    It’s just what mommies do.

It’s her Christmas stocking, Elvie! Check and see what’s inside yours!

  • What's this?

    What’s this?

The first thing that Elvie pulled out of her stocking was an animal shaped shaker. When we turned music on, she figured out pretty quickly what to do with it.

  • The most exciting thing in the stocking was chocolate.

Elvie was thrilled that there were several little chocolate reindeer and a Santa.

Unfortunately for her, we confiscated the chocolate until we could put her in a bib with sleeves. Luckily, there were presents to distract her.

  • “For me?”

Yes, Elvie, those presents are all yours.

  • Getting started unwrapping

Getting that first tear started is the hardest part.

    Now she’s got it!

Let the wild ripping of wrapping paper commence!

  • “Ooooh!”

Elvie exclaimed over every present she opened, but she especially liked the ones that didn’t have to be freed from their packaging before she played with them.

  • She wants to hold ALL THE PRESENTS.

Can she lift them all at once? The answer to that turned out to be, “Not without dropping a few.”

  • Presents are fun!

She really didn’t get a ton of stuff, but having more than one thing to open made her so happy.

Zinashi got Elvie a doll stroller for Christmas, and it’s definitely a hit. Big sister gifts are the best!

She thinks if she’s sneaky enough, she can just play with Zinashi’s new toys, too.

Normally, we eat at the kitchen table, but I put a big platter of chocolate babka in the center of our coffee table so we could eat and play at the same time. It was definitely much appreciated.

Why not? Christmas only comes once a year. We can indulge a little.

And so did the rest of our family. Elvie’s second Christmas was truly magical.
