What inspired you and your husband to create Cradle Rock?
“Our baby monitor! We sat on the front porch one night, talking to a friend while lullabies played over the monitor. Our oldest was a baby at the time and always fell asleep to music. Still does, at age 5. There we were, three adults listening to Twinkle Twinkle Little Star….
We started dreaming up what albums we would make into lullabies if we could and then just decided we should go for it. We left the porch that night with the name for our record label (Tree Top Records) and a list of album ideas that would become our first Cradle Rock lullaby releases.”
What makes Cradle Rock different from other lullaby records?
“Cradle Rock creates lullaby renditions of iconic albums, start to finish. We take the albums you love from Country, Pop and Rock – those tried and true favorites like Fleetwood Mac’s Rumours and The Eagles’ Greatest Hits and U2′s The Joshua Tree – and make them into instrumental records you can share with even the tiniest ears.”
What's the sound like? Is it elevator music?
“NO. No elevators allowed! We actually keep the tempos and melodies as true to the original as possible, but we use instruments like the mellotron, glockenspiel and vibraphone to make the sound soothing enough for baby. Our producer, Stephen Gause, is crazy talented. I’ve admitted on more than a few occasions to listening to the lullaby records when there were no children in the room. :)”
It sounds like this has been a labor of love for you guys.
“Absolutely. It has been a slow process but a lot of fun. My husband has worked in the music industry for years, so starting Tree Top was natural fit for him. His friend Steve Jones of Brash Music loved the idea and jumped in as our parent label, and our producer Stephen and his wife are long-time friends of ours as well.”
“Our two families have five children under six between us, including two sets of 3-year-old twins! Needless to say, we understand each other. The opportunity to watch this record label grow up alongside our children would almost be more fun than we could handle.”
