Last year during the holidays, my husband, Jarod, was still working retail, so if it wasn’t an actual holiday, he was at work. This year we felt really lucky to have him in a new job that allows everyone to have the time between Christmas and New Year’s Day off. Because Christmas Eve was a Monday, we got to start the official holiday break on Saturday, and Jarod didn’t have to be back to work until January 2nd. We had eleven full days of family time. Normally we would try to travel for part of that to see friends and family, but this year we needed to stay put due to Elvie’s needs. I think we were all happy to just hang out, particularly Elvie. It is her favorite thing when we are all together as a family. Not a day goes by that isn’t documented with a photo somehow, and I’ve chosen my ten favorite photos of Elvie from our holiday break.
Elvie on Holiday Break
She didn’t do much that was different, but she did put a high priority on getting cuter every day.
Napping with the Cat
Nothing kicks a holiday break off quite like a cat nap. Elvie giggled and screeched when she realized she’d been joined by a friend while she was sleeping.
Waking Up to Find Everyone In Bed
She was thrilled to look over from her crib and see that everyone was still in bed. Pajama party!
Look What Santa Brought!
It didn’t take her long to really get into the perfect gift that Santa brought for her. The cymbal is her favorite part.
She Couldn't Stop Putting That Green Bean in Her Mouth
She really didn’t like it, and it was evident every time she put it in her mouth, but she just kept doing it, much to our delight (and her disgust).
She Loves Her High Chair When No One Asks Her to Eat
Elvie always joins us near the table for meals, and she loves that. I think she feels like a big girl. We had plenty of family dinners in over the break.
So I Have This Clown Shirt, AND This Big Flower Headband
It was chilly out, and we’d stayed in a lot. There’s nothing better than beating boredom by dressing the baby in something ridiculous.
On a Walk, Just the Two of Us
One of the nice things about having Jarod home is that I could take one kid at a time on errands. Elvie loves rolling through the neighborhood in her bassinet stroller, sitting up and waving.
You Can't Take Too Many Cat Naps
Whether the cat is a snuggle item or a pillow, it doesn’t matter. A nap with a furry friend is always cozier.
Getting Quicker at Making Messes
With the instruction of her big sister to spur her on, Elvie set new records in trashing the office during holiday break. She gets serious about it and gets the job done.
Waking Up Happy on New Year's Day
It’s a new year, and Elvie greeted it the very first morning with a coo and a smile. Here’s hoping 2013 will be full of pleasant and happy surprises.
