We’ve recently gotten into the routine of having a tasty frozen treat in the late afternoons when the boys get up from naps. Options include froyo topped with berries or granola, fresh fruit Jell-O, and as of recently, homemade fresh fruit popsicles.
Are you seeing a trend here? FRUIT!
Sweet fruity treats are my little ones’ love language. And lucky for me, it’s easy and inexpensive to take advantage of all the homegrown produce popping up at roadside stands and farmer’s markets across the Midwest. Currently, we’re having a blast making our own fruity popsicles. They’re so easy to make, and pack a pretty great nutritional punch.
The fantastic thing about making your own popsicles is that the options are honestly endless. All you need is fruit, a sweetener (sugar, agave nectar, honey, etc.), and some water. Blend it up and freeze!
DIY Strawberry-Lime Popsicles:
What you need to make strawberry-lime popsicles:
– A quart of fresh strawberries
– Juice of 2 limes
– 3 tablespoons of sweetener (I used agave nectar)
– 2/3 cup of water
– Pinch of salt
– Freezer molds
Blend it up!
Throw everything in the blender, and blend until you get your desired consistency.
Pour into molds and let the waiting game begin.
Once fruit mixture is pureed, pour into popsicle molds and freeze until hard.
Time to enjoy!
Pro tip: Run the popsicle mold under hot water for just a few seconds to loosen the fruit from the walls of the mold. The popsicle will then slide right out perfectly!
So good, and so simple to make!
