My 7 Favorite Baby Basics
The baby stage is sweet and special in so many ways. Everything is so small and adorable; I found it very hard not to overdo it when it came to choosing things to use for my baby. Now that Elvie is halfway through her second year of life, she’s already outgrown the need for many of my favorite things, and other things are simply bigger. As I wax nostalgic about her first months with us, I find myself wistful for the items that we will no longer need to use. I’ve compiled a list of my favorite baby things, seven items that will always remind me of the baby stage.
7 of My Favorite Baby Basics
These are the things that are fun to choose and to use, particular to the baby stage.
While they make footie pajamas for bigger kids, they’re most readily available for babies. I love the sight of a baby in footie pajamas. Adorable!
Little Cotton Hats...with EARS!
There’s nothing quite so cute as a baby in a simple hat with ears. My little one is old enough now to take off every hat I put on her; I miss putting hats on her and having them stay put.
Teeny Tiny Shoes
Of course kids can continue to wear adorable shoes as they grow, but baby shoes have the advantage of being tiny to add to their cuteness factor. I look back at the first shoes Elvie wore and marvel at how itty bitty they are.
One bottle does it all – baby comes out of the bath with a clean little body and clean hair, smelling amazing. There’s nothing like the scent of baby shampoo on a sweet little baby.
When baby is small, a simple mobile is all you need to entertain them. I loved watching Elvie stare in delight at the animals circling above her and eventually trying to reach up to touch them.
Soft and small, little bibs are perfect for baby’s first meal. We had quite a collection of perfectly adorable bibs, but now they don’t come close to containing a toddler level mess. We’ve kept our favorites to use on our girls’ dolls, but passed on the rest.
Easy to use for swaddling or simple layering, I loved having a stack of swaddling blankets at the ready. It was easy to throw an extra in my bag, so if we ended up in a public space with questionable surfaces, I could throw one down for Elvie to play on.
