Margot's First Camping Trip

With my first baby, I was pretty timid about getting out of the house. I was especially wary of doing things that might throw her off. I was hesitant about trips and vacations and overnights and anything else that might mess up her schedule. Everything revolved around her needs. But the more comfortable I got as a mom, I realized that babies are pretty flexible. In fact, newborn babes are kind of a piece of cake. (You realize this when you have a toddler and a THREEnager.) When they’re not yet walking or talking or getting into trouble, they almost become the easiest ones to take care of.

I’ve got a 3-year-old, a 2-year-old, and a newborn. (Ahem, hands full!) Last weekend, my husband and I took them all camping. I know you probably think we’re crazy, but we had a blast. And truth be told, Margot (the newborn) was the easiest camper of all. She still eats around the clock and she still sleeps most of the day away, so she probably didn’t even know we were in a new place.

We spent the entire weekend outside. We explored, we went fishing, we threw rocks in the stream, we roasted weenies and marshmallows, and we had a great time. Margot was a peach the whole weekend. Her sisters on the other hand… ;)

If you’ve got a new baby, don’t be afraid to get out there and do the things you’ve always loved to do. They’ll be a piece of cake and it will encourage them to live an adventurous life!
