There is no debating that kale is good for you. Doctors and nutritionists recognize kale as one of the healthiest vegetables around. The thing is, kale does have a slightly bitter taste and it’s not the easiest vegetable to get kids to fall in love with—especially not picky babies.
But, we have discovered a way to get kale into Jada’s diet regularly and she loves it (so does her brother). Smoothies have become her new favorite thing, and there really is no way for anyone in my home to make a smoothie without planning to share some with Jada.
Here’s the recipe for Jada’s favorite kale smoothie. I think your whole family will enjoy it. Mine certainly does.
Jada’s Favorite Kale Smoothie
2 cups fresh kale
½ cup cucumber
½ cup celery
½ cup strawberries
½ cup peaches
½ cup pineapple
½ cup greek yogurt (or almond yogurt for a Vegan option)
¼ cup fresh orange juice
1 Tablespoon Honey (optional only if your child is over 1)
Ice for desired consistency
Sweetness of smoothie is determined by the sweetness of the fruits you include. You may want to taste before determining if you want to add honey. Also, a mix of frozen and fresh fruit is recommended (nothing canned).
