Introducing Sofia the First

Have you heard the royal news? Disney is introducing a new princess with a Disney Junior movie, Sofia the First, Once Upon a Princess (airing November 18th). It will then become a TV series on the channel. While the new princess will be most entertaining to children between the ages of 2 and 7, there’s no doubt your baby will grow up (in no time) to sing her sweet songs and dress up in her magical amulet.

You see, Sofia is different from the other princesses we know and love because she’s a young girl. Though she comes from a simple background, her life changes dramatically when her mother marries the King of Enchancia. She must attend the Royal Prep Academy (which happens to be taught by none other than Sleeping Beauty‘s Flora, Fauna, and Merryweather), learn to cope with her new stepbrother and stepsister, and discover what it means to be a princess (which is much more than wearing sparkly shoes).

And if your loyalty is still to another princess, chances are you’ll get a sneak peek of her along the way too. It seems Sofia will be visited by the likes of Cinderella, Aurora, Snow White, and Ariel (to name a few).

Sofia’s clumsiness, kindness, and ability to talk to animals make her endearing, and her character is intended to teach kids about kindness, generosity, loyalty, honesty, and grace.
