Hitting A Major Milestone - Solid Food

I never thought something like my baby eating food would bring me to tears, but it has.  As my third and last baby, it means that time goes super fast, with 2 school age children and all the busyness that comes along with homework and activities.  It also means that every single milestone we hit is ridiculously bittersweet.  Knowing that these firsts will be our last, makes me want to capture every single frame as they’re happening, in the hopes that the perfect record and story keeping will help keep these memories fresh and alive inside.  On Saturday, just 4 days shy of Hayden turning 6 months old, we introduced him to his first taste of “solid” food, and captured over 140 photos, plus video, in the process!  I’ll spare you by sharing every single frame captured, but instead I picked out just a few of my favorites.  Click through to see Hayden’s, not to mention our big kids, enjoying his first taste of solids.

Leary At First

Hayden was very curious about this device that was heading toward his mouth. He went cross eyed as he watched me place the spoon of rice cereal in his mouth.

The Spoon Grab Move

Oh how all the memories came flooding back to me of feeding my first two, as soon as Hayden reached for the spoon. It must be instinctual for them to grab at the spoon with all their might.

Making Messes

Of course half of what we put in his mouth came right back out. But he did enjoy a fair amount of food and seemed genuinely interested in what this food business was all about.

The Older Kids Help Out Too

Once we had got a few good spoonfuls in his mouth, we decided to let the older kids have a turn at feeding him. They were both dancing around his chair, waiting for the chance to give it a try! Big sister and big brother fed him like pros, gingerly and with excitement.

Giving It All He's Got

Older brother took the feeding duties very serious, and was nothing but focused and intent on making sure baby brother got a full meal.

Taking It In Stride

So far every bit of newness set before Hayden has been met with ease, for the most part (he still hasn’t taken to sleep training very well). We feel especially lucky and are thankful to have such a mellow, happy, and easy going little guy for our third. It makes life, and this parenting journey that much sweeter. Here’s to many good meals shared together as a family Hayden!
