His First Haircut & How It Transformed Him from Baby to Boy
I did it.
After talking about how I never want to cut my son’s hair, I finally made the leap. As much as I didn’t want to do it, those wavy locks were starting to get in his eyes, and it was just long enough to put into a ponytail. Before I could change my mind, I called the hairdresser and made an appointment for the same day.
Yesterday, after school, my girls and I escorted the little man to his appointment, and of course I recorded the entire ordeal with photos and video. When it was over, I finally realized why I was so against it in the first place. Haircuts transform babies into boys. It’s like a magical episode that takes the baby out of the boy. My baby boy is now officially a toddler/big kid, and I don’t know whether to laugh or cry.
I decided to share our day with you in the form of a slideshow. Tell me, am I alone? Have any of you felt the same way when cutting your baby boy’s hair for the first time? Did you pick up the larger pieces of hair to put away as a keepsake, or is that just me?
This was before. He wasn’t having a great hair day and the curls were non-existent thanks to the weather, which helped me tremendously. I don’t know if I could have gone through with it if his curls were out and about.
He wasn’t thrilled with the idea either, as you can see.
Next up – the chair. The hair stylist gave him a lollipop which he hung on to for dear life while she cut his hair.
He sat super still the entire time. I was expecting him to complain and move around, but no. He sat as still as a statue. It was actually quite funny and I took video clips to show my husband when we got home.
I collected the larger bits of hair to put in an envelope as a keepsake. Funny enough, the stylist had an envelope handy so I didn’t have to leave with a fist full of hair.
And just like that, my baby became a boy!
He looks so sweet in his new haircut, but I did cry after it was all over because he looks so big! Big and oh so handsome. :)
