He Said His First Word!
I’ve been waiting for what feels like ages for it to finally roll off his tongue. I could sense that the moment was near, and my ears were perked and ready. And earlier this week, it happened. Baby Paul said his first real word.
I assumed it would be some variation of momma. Maybe “mama”, “mommy”, or possibly even just plain “mom”. And if his first word wasn’t mama, surely it would be “daddy” or “doggie“.
But no. Baby Paul’s first word wasn’t my name. It wasn’t “bye-bye”, “no-no” or “more” (which was my five year old’s first word, and is still possibly her favorite word).
So do you have any guess what his first word was?
Paul’s first word was (drum-roll, please): Hello.
You guys, when he says hello, it’s the most adorable thing you’ve ever heard in your entire life. Pronounced like “hi-yo”, a little pause between the hell-and-the-o. Or sometimes it comes out as a “yell-o”.
And when he really gets going, he will not be stopped. Hi-yo, hi-yo, hi-yo at the top of his lungs, as he crawls from room to room.
I always get a kick out of first words. My oldest daughter’s first word was “airplane”, which might sound like an interesting choice for a first word, but at the time, she was really into pointing out airplanes as they flew by.
Babies, they say the darnedest things.
Has your baby said his or her first word yet? What was it?
