Thanks to Disney for sponsoring this post and giving me the Minnie Mouse Clutch & Rattle Ball from Fisher-Price® for free.
This week has been the hardest week yet since my return to work. A shift occurred in our house, and suddenly Lola wasn’t the only one with a runny nose. I had one too. It’s an interesting dance she and I do whenever we are sick. Neither of us are ever in the same phase; it’s often me feeling at my worst when she’s on the mend. And being sick with a little one is anything but easy. Yes, the smiles and the laughter have the ability to remedy the cold blues, but they can also make for an even more exhausted mama.
Lately, one thing that helps us get through the times when I’m not feeling as well as my baby, is to introduce new toys or activities. While Lola has favorite toys, sometimes they simply aren’t enough to keep her entertained and occupied while I curl up in the crook of the couch drinking tea. On the tail end of her cold, she’s got a ton of energy, and although I’m happy to see her back to herself, I sometimes feel like I won’t be able to keep up.
Sometimes I bring out a brand new toy — perhaps an old friend she hasn’t seen in a while (that I keep tucked away for tough days or trips to Nana’s) or something that her sister used to play with when she was small. Something that elicits excitement, curiosity, and wonder. And perhaps a few more moments of rest for me.
This time around it’s Minnie, a friend who has stood the test of time, reentering playtime in a new way. And from the look of Lola’s face when she saw Minnie standing in the midst of colorful flowers and sphere shaped goodness, cold or no cold, she’s definitely going to have a ball with this new toy.
