Unique & Trending: Autumn & Harvest Inspired Baby Names

In Nature

  • Autumn - a beautiful name, which for some reason or other has gotten the rep of being a hippy classic. Pshh. Autumn replaced the word Harvest mid 16th Century and has quickly become more popular than Summer
  • Amber - the gorgeous fossilized tree resin, found in jewelry. I chose it because of it’s availability in a vivid array of Autumn hued colours
  • Aster – of the Aster flower, which blooms in early Fall
  • Hawk/ Hawke – every fall, hundreds of thousands hawks and other ospreys and falcons migrate to their winter dwellings. A strong, unique name
  • Hunter - this name was bog in the 90′s from what I noticed, amongst boys and girls. Although I’m sure it was originally intended to be an uber masculine name. I remember there was always a few in school. I don’t hear it as much anymore
  • Raven – The Common Raven is a highly intelligent bird, revered as spiritual figure who forages on a rich assortment of insects, cereal grains, berries, fruit, small animals, and food waste. Harvest…bird-style
  • Wheately / Wheatleigh - “from the wheat meadow.” A rather poetic and elegant name making me think of baked goods, warm homemade bread, sugar and spice

Of Tress, Specifically For Their Turning of Leaves

  • Ash (Asher)
  • Birch
  • Blaze
  • Cedar
  • Daphne - (meaning laurel tree)
  • Forrest
  • Hazel
  • Lennox – (a Scottish name related to the elm tree)
  • Juniper
  • Laurel – (of the Laurel tree, an aromatic evergreen)
  • Leaf/Leif
  • Olive
  • Willow
  • Woody – (I know a couple!)

The Colours Of Autumn

  • Bruno
  • Browning
  • Copper
  • Coral
  • Goldie
  • Garnet – those lovely minerals that glitter and shine in tones of deep, rich red, crimson and candied maple. Another favourite group of fall shades
  • Mauve
  • Rory - the Red King
  • Redd – (this is my partner’s uncle’s name!)
  • Rusty
  • Rowan – known as a flowering tree with little red berries, or little red-head
  • Sienna
  • Scarlett

Earth & Harvest Goddesses / Gods

  • Annona - the Roman Goddess of the grain
  • Dionysus – The Greek God of wine. A glass of red wine on a chilly autumn evening? Perfection. I like Dion for short. Less stately that way
  • Demeter – the Greek Goddess of grain, agriculture and fertility
  • Gaia – the Goddess of the earth
  • Persephone - the Goddess of vegetation
  • Rhea - Titanis mother of the Gods, and a goddess of female fertility and motherhood
  • Lugh - the Celtic God of the sky

Harvest: Food & Drink

  • Apple - (Now made famous by Gwyneth Paltrow, many others have hopped on the Apple naming band-wagon)
  • Maize – (pronounced May-zee, this name is so cute! Known in english as corn, domesticated by Indigenous peoples, made bright and colourful for many types of Autumn decor)
  • Pumpkin (obvious! A cute nickname)
  • Bean – (most favoured as an adorable nick-name, harvested in the fall)
  • Saffron – (Safi for short, I chose it for it’s rich golden colour and frequent use in aromatic, hearty fall dishes)
  • Kale - in season during the fall
  • Sage - a popular spice in cooking, it is perhaps most widely known for it’s use in stuffing. Sage is also one of the four sacred medicines in Native culture
