I am really excited about the coming new year. This has been a very challenging year for us, and while we threw in plenty of fun, I have to admit that there were some pretty big things that happened to Elvie in particular that we are glad are over. Her first big surgery kicked off the year, and she ends it still in a brace, recovering fully from the second big surgery. We will be so happy to usher in 2014 and look forward to all the good things which are to come this year. I’ve been imagining lately what Elvie’s resolutions would be if she were to make some, and I made up a little list, complete with what I imagine her explanations for each one would be. I am confident that she will continue to be a determined delight of a little girl, and I look forward to seeing her light shine this coming year. Here’s her list.
My 10 Resolutions for 2014
A list by Elvie.
I’m not sure why people are surprised anymore at how quickly I learn to move my body around, but that’s okay – I can keep surprising them! This year I’m going to walk, run, jump, and CLIMB.
At night, I like to rub my hands in my hair while I sleep, and when I wake up, it’s enormous! I know that a lot of people don’t think it’s possible for it to get EVEN BIGGER, but I know I can make it happen if I work hard.
I’m thinking nightly, and not just with my family. Come over! Let’s dance!
Everybody seems to think that it’s a bad idea if I play with food coloring and scissors, but I am a creative girl! I need to get those things out, and I’m going to figure out how to do it.
I hate to bring this up, but I do need one more surgery, and I just want to get it out of the way. My doctor says this one will be easy, and then I can just visit him for fun once it’s done. I like that idea!
Did you know I got 48 necklaces for Christmas? I’m going to wear all of them, plus my big sister’s hats and scarves. If I’m feeling really glamorous, I’ll swipe some of Mami’s necklaces, too. I can reach them now!
I’ve made lots of friends this year, and they’re all invited. My mom decided on a farm theme since I like to say “moo” and “heehaw” a lot, but what will really make it the best party ever is that so many of the people that I love will show up.
I have made a LOT of progress since I left Ethiopia a year and a half ago. I’ve got to go back and show all my friends and family that still live there that I am an amazing wonder of a girl. I hate to brag, but I think they are going to be really surprised at how much I can do now.
I love chocolate, more than any other food, and if I’m going to have the best year I’ve had so far, then chocolate will obviously be a part of that.
I make friends everywhere I go, and I love to make them smile. It just feels good, you know? So I’m going to do even more to get more smiles this year. I think that will make for a happy new year for everyone.
