Elvie and Lamby: A Valentine Love Story
When we knew that Elvie would be joining our family, Zinashi and I took a trip to Kansas City to see friends and family, knowing that it would be quite awhile before we’d be able to do it again. While our primary purpose was to see people we love, I had a secondary purpose: baby shopping in the spots I know best. While San Francisco has a lot to offer, and I could surely find anything I wanted in my new city, with just four months there, I hadn’t yet figured out the best spots to get what I want. In Kansas City, I have a favorite toy store, where they sell toys for kids big and small, and also have a nice selection of little things for tiny babies. It was there that I spied Lamby for the first time and had a hunch that he’d be just right. His little body is soft but nubbly, so it can take a lot of wear and still look good, and he’s got velvet feet and silky bits inside his ears and tail. We introduced Elvie to him on our very first meeting, and it didn’t take long for her to fall in love. The photos that follow tell the story of their enduring bond.
The Day They Met
Sure, Elvie had eyes for another guy that day, but Lamby could wait. He just looked on patiently.

When a Cat Joined Their Naps, Lamby Didn't Even Flinch
He’s such a brave lamb. He will stay by Elvie’s side even when things get frightening.
When She Went Back to the Hospital, He Comforted Her
Even though she couldn’t hold him with both hands, they were still together.
