DIY Baby-Friendly 4th of July "Fireworks" in a Bottle
Ka-boom! Bang! The huge explosions and bright lights of Fourth of July celebrations aren’t every baby’s idea of fun. Some little ones can be quite frightened by the pyrotechnic shows that have most of us in awe of their awesomeness. Don’t let Baby miss out on the festivities this year! Take a soothing and festive approach to fireworks by bottling them up! A spin on the popular “time-out” bottles, I created a baby-friendly version of July 4th fireworks in a bottle. With a couple of supplies and a few minutes, you can make sure that Baby gets to join in the fun too!
DIY Fireworks in a Bottle
DIY fireworks in a bottle is a fun and safe alternative for babies and toddlers to enjoy fireworks on July 4th without the loud and scary explosions. Click through for the simple steps to create one.
What you’ll need:
Clear, empty plastic bottle
Sequins – red, silver, blue
Glitter* – red, silver, blue
Glitter glue – your choice of color
Pipe cleaners – pictured, but I didn’t end up using
Glue gun – not pictured
* I used regular glitter, but ultra fine glitter works much better.
Empty the contents of your glitter glue into the empty plastic bottle.
I used a small tub that I had on hand.
Add the glitter!
I used regular glitter but would have had much better results with ultra fine glitter. Regular glitter sinks quickly, while the fine glitter floats longer.
Add the sequins. And enjoy the pretty mess from the spilled glitter.
Fill bottle with water leaving around 1 inch at the top. Using a hot glue gun, seal the cap onto the bottle. You want to make sure that a child cannot open the bottle and consume the water. Plus you want to make sure it doesn’t spill all over the place! Optional: Add decorative tape to the cap.
Shake, Shake, Shake!
The completed bottle is so much fun to shake and watch! The colors all swirl and twinkle in the sun!
Fireworks in a Bottle
Baby will enjoy watching the glitter, sequins, and bubbles swirl around inside the bottle!
Who can resist glitter? So pretty and festive!
As you can see, the regular sequins sink, while the fine glitter continues to float. The glitter glue that I added in the beginning contained the fine glitter.
Rest assured, Baby will not be harmed with these fun, festive, and safe “fireworks!” This bottle is a great way to entertain Baby all summer long.
