For no particular reason (other than the rapid development of said relationship), I want to share with y’all, the beauty that is the young and fresh father/daughter bond, around these parts.
Often you hear of how a baby favours their momma or papa, usually a direct result from who they spend the most time with. Which most often is the momma, at least during the newborn stage.
Perhaps it’s because we both work from home, perhaps it’s because things are fairly equal on the poonami duty front.
Daily baby-care duties aside, I prefer to think it’s more so a deliciously sweet bond that has grown from love. From a raw, ethereal place that is kindness. That is patience. That is all the time spent, walking the floors when she was tiny with colic, or days upon days of just being. Being in each other’s company, she in his arms, now on his knee. Of song and picture book words; walks in the park, days at the beach, smiles, hugs and kisses.
Arms outstretched, clearly smitten with her Daddy just as much as she is with me. And I wouldn’t have it any other way.
I believe in the magnitude that the power of a father-daughter relationship beckons. It is all that I didn’t have and restores my faith in familial happiness, daily.
