A Simple Cake Smash Photo Shoot: Just Add Baby!

Last week, baby Paul celebrated his first birthday. And while we didn’t throw him a lavish party (or any party, for that matter), we still celebrate my little guy in a few simple ways, making sure he felt extra special and very loved on his big day.

He opened a few gifts, we sang an off-key version of “Happy Birthday”, and of course we ate cake. The celebration culminated with a morning after, anything-goes, smash cake session.

The cake, before baby Paul got his little sticky fingers all over it.

From across the room, his eye is on the prize.

Cautious at first, he goes in for just a taste.

Aggressive handfuls of sugar filled frosting quickly follow.

Two hands are better than one, when it comes to eating cake with your hands.

While we're at it, let's just go ahead and cut out the middle man, our hands!

For such aggressive eat, he did manage to stay relatively clean. Yes, my boy has manners.

Little fingers clutching cake. Next up? A bath in the kitchen sink!

With a full belly, Paul is nearing the end.

And just like that, he's done!
