A Family Ornament Tradition

Ever since my husband I started dating (way back in high school) we’ve had a tradition of making/buying an ornament every year. When we were younger, we would make each other funny little ornaments. One year, I made him a popsicle stick frame ornament with a photo of us in it, and he made me a light-up Christmas tree ornament in his electronics class. Now, we stick to buying ornaments each year. Some years, they are significant and represent something special about the year, and other years, we just choose one that we think will look pretty on the tree. Since we have a daughter, it’s a fun tradition to share with her, and now she gets a yearly ornament too!

A Family Ornament Tradition

Last year’s ornament was a simple wood cookie slice that has the date and said “Fern’s First Christmas” — just a little DIY ornament I whipped up. This year’s pick is an ornament I purchased from the Disney Store – this Mickey Mouse Mouseketeer Ear Hat Ornament. It seemed like an appropriate pick for the year, since not only did Fern have her first Disneyland and Disney World trips this year where she got her own personalized mouse ears, but she also became a full-blown Disney fan. My girl loves all things Mickey Mouse, and I can’t wait to see her face light up when she gets to hang this ornament on our tree. Having a little one during the holidays is just so magical!

There are a ton of super cute ornaments at the Disney Store right now which made it hard to make a decision, but this one felt the most meaningful for this year. You can see more Disney ornaments here though!
