There is just something about summer that feels special. The long sunshine-y days are just begging for adventures to be had and memories to be made. I think it probably has something to do with the fact that summer takes us back to our own childhoods and reminds us that the world is full of potential and wonder. When summer rolls around, it reminds me as a mom to stop and enjoy the little things and to create simple magic for my own little ones. Summer fun doesn’t have to be elaborate or expensive to be magical though! Here are 6 fun and simple ways that we make summer a bit more magical around here!

6 Fun & Simple Ways We Spend Our Summer Days

1. Picnics

On the days that I’m not feeling up to going anywhere we have picnics in our yard. It feels fun and summery and offers a change of scenery for a restless toddler without having to go anywhere. If you don’t have a yard or on days when it’s just too hot to be outside, we’ll have indoor picnics – just as fun!

2. Splashing around

We like to take advantage of the heat by spending our days enjoying water fun and the best part is that it’s usually free! There are so many spray parks, splash pads and wading pools to take advantage of or even just a kiddie pool or sprinklers in the backyard. My toddler is pretty much a little fish all summer long.

3. Bubble fun

Bubbles are good clean fun and little ones love them! And if you feel like investing, there are some great bubble machines out there that will do all the work for you so you can run through the bubbles like a kid with your baby.

4. Berry picking

We are lucky enough to have raspberries, blueberries and strawberries all growing in our backyard, so most days we venture outside to pick and graze, but there are also great U-Pick locations around as well. Berry picking is a fun activity for toddlers who will enjoy picking and eating with equal enthusiasm.

5. Making cold treats

Summer is the best time of year for enjoying cold treats, so take advantage with your Baby by whipping up some nutritious and delicious options. Frozen watermelon on sticks, fruit and veggie puree popsicles…the ideas are endless. Just check out Pinterest for inspiration!

6. Outdoor art

I’ll admit that I’m not an “art mom.” I kind of dread messy art activities like finger painting and anything involving glue, but with warmer weather, we can take those art projects outside! Making outdoor art frees me from the worry of mess, because if a little paint spills, all I have to do is hose it off. Perfect!
