5 Things Better than Silver and Gold

As I pack up the messy Christmas aftermath that’s been dragged through my living room, I can’t help but reflect on the past year, and all the stuff (both the good and not-so-good) my family has gone through.

Sure, there were some hard times and moments I’m so glad are finally behind us, but overall I’m completely overwhelmed with all the many blessing 2012 provided.  And if this year has taught me anything, it’s to never take anything (and I mean ANYTHING) for granted. Big things like a warm house, and small things like a warm hug from a two year old, all so important in their own special way. All so much bigger and better than any amount of silver or gold found wrapped under a tree.

Everyone is (mostly) healthy

Sure, baby Paul was recently diagnosed with a double ear infection, and the 5 year old has a nasty cough, but in the grand scheme of things, we’re healthy as a bunch of horses! (knock on wood)

Sleeping through the night

After 11 long months, baby Paul is finally sleeping through the night. I’m getting a solid 6-7 hours of uninterrupted rest, and am starting to feel human once again.

A break from the school calendar

While I love the stability and structure the school calendar brings, it’s awesome to have a small break. For just a couple weeks, the girls can play in their pajamas, the boys can nap as long as they when they need, and our day is free of the rigorous daily schedule.

Security in the 9 to 5

For me, some days it’s hard to get out of bed and go to work. But I’m so very thankful both my husband and I have stable jobs that we enjoy.

A tiny place to call our own

Our place is small, and we easily outgrew it’s capacity two kids ago. But even in the times I feel cramped and confined, I’m thankful for this little space we call home.
