Our son is quite the adventurous eater! Ever since he first started eating solids, he has wanted nothing to do with bland baby food and instead has always favored stealing bites off our plates. He seems to have a pretty big acceptance for all kinds of fun flavors and spices. Eating together has gotten to be so much fun as we help him explore the huge world of flavors and textures out there. Here are 17 of his recent favorites…
17 Fun Foods My 17-Month-Old Loves!
Food is fun! At least it is when you’re our son. Here are 17 foods he’s enjoyed as a 17 month old. First up, his all time favorite… BANANAS!
It’s summer which means that the watermelons are in season and are so sweet and juicy that we just couldn’t help letting him try some. Well we created a happy watermelon monster! It’s all he wants to eat now-a-days!
We got into a bit of a routine with oatmeal every day for breakfast. He calls it “Oooohhhhssss” and asks for it as soon as we open his bedroom door in the mornings. He even does the sign for “please”. How can we say no?
Hummus and Avocado Toast
This stuff is so good, you’ll love it too! Smash some ripe avocados into some hummus, add a bit of salt and spread it on toast. Oh it’s so good. Our kiddo loves it!
Chocolate Spiced Pancakes
I make these gluten and dairy free because we’re playing it safe around here (and also because I have food allergies and don’t want to have to make two batches) but this is a simple recipe: pancake mix + chocolate almond milk + chocolate chips + pumpkin pie spice. So good.
Our son loves Thai food (and Indian food, and Chinese food, and even Vietnamese food for that matter! Our little citizen of the world!) and he loves to sneak bites of my leftover Pad Thai during lunch.
So simple and quick to make. Just melt some good quality cheddar cheese on a corn tortilla. Fold it in half and then break it into pieces. Yum town.
He loves warm scrambled eggs. Although he will only eat them all if we put salsa on them. Seriously, this is our child.
Quinoa is a really great grain so I was so happy when he liked it. We top ours with marinara sauce full of veggies and eat it up quick!
Marshmallows, Graham Crackers, and Melon
Because sometimes you’ve just got to have fun. He loves little marshmallows and a special treat and we call graham crackers “cookies” and they are pretty much his favorite thing ever. Also, since the summer started he’s been gobbling up the sweet cantaloupe melon we’ve brought home.
Spaghetti Squash and Strawberries
This strawberry season was good to us here in Florida. The berries were so good! We definitely ate our share. He also loves roasted spaghetti squash with pasta sauce on it. So do I. It’s an easy dinner we can all enjoy!
and just for fun… FRENCH FRIES
He recently got to try french fries and he is quite the fan. (They are my favorite junk food!) Now he loves to snatch them from our plates when he sees them. It’s nice to have a fun snack on special occasions.
