10 Weird Things That Babies Do
Posted by Selena Burgess
Babies are adorable, heart rendering, delicate (yet resilient), challenging little beings. Something we don’t talk about all that often is how weird they are! Well, to us anyways.
Surely, to them, it is we who are the strange ones. And they are probably right. If you are an expectant or new mama these are some of the top oddities that come along with your baby’s natural discovery and development…

Cute & quirky...
We all love our babies, for all of their quirks. Up ahead are the top 10 ways babies are weird, from what I’ve experienced anyways. Make sure to weigh in on the comments if you have an adorable oddity to add!

Funny faces...
Comical geniuses these babies are, I tell you. It’s like they’re pro and they don’t even know it. All jokes aside, babies make all these funny faces because they are developing their facial muscles and they are actually trying to mimic the face that we make!

Dropping and throwing things...
Like all the time. It doesn’t ever stop. For some reason, babies (and toddlers) are addicted to throwing their toys down the stairs, across the room and into the toilet. Which also goes for the food. Meal-times will find you either marveling at the amount of mess and food that can end up on the floor and perplexed with WHY?! Why must they throw their food on the floor?!

Whole mouth kisses...
Ever affectionate, babies love to cuddle, kiss and hug. When they first start learning to give kisses you can expect to be slobbered all over, bitten and have your cheek bitten off. Babies also love to kiss themselves in the mirror, with just as much saliva that they don upon you. So get used to either constantly cleaning your windows and mirrors or the fingerprints and mouth marks.

They will play with their own poo...
I just had to get that out there. It is a truth that no one want to hear about and we are all horrified when it happens. It’s BOUND to happen. I thought I was in the clear up until a couple of weeks ago. That innocent looking, gorgeous fresh baby right there is the after-affect of one serious shudder fest.

They suck on their toes...
Every chance they can get. As soon as they have figured out how to grasp, they will be pulling on their legs and grabbing their feet, usually attempting at swallowing their foot whole, settling for gnawing and nibbling. It’s often a tough choice between the feet and the rattle. At least it was for my daughter!

Everything in the mouth, all the time...
Oral exploration is an important stage that lasts for a long, long time – so get used to it! Dirt, sand, your face, the cat’s head. These will be the popular items of choice. Not that organic wooden teething rattle. Sad but true.

Inventive crawling styles...
Crawling is a huge milestone for your baby – promoting muscle development, self-confidence and motor development. The style of a baby’s crawl is purely personal. Some take on the belly crawl, some the scoot’n'boogie, others the leapfrog as displayed with my own daughter. My son was much more traditional and kept things classic. You never know what it will be, but you can be guaranteed amusement. Especially when they crawl under the couch, backwards. One of Abby’s signature moves.

Head banging and shaking...
Most often coinciding with high-chair antics, at least that’s what I’ve found. There will be rare times when it happens out of the chair, like maybe when they want you to quit it with the paparazzi business. Abby has a habit of throwing her head back and banging it up against the back of her chair. On purpose. Or shaking her head furiously back and forth. Usually something to do with….yea. We’re not sure what.

They love to be naked...
Who loves to be naked like a baby loves to be naked?! Not many. Well…aside from drunken frat boys and uhm…okay let’s not go down that road. It takes some major stealth to bamboozle one’s baby back into clothes or pj’s once they’ve felt the air hit their sweet cheeks. Mine run maniacally away from me like half crazed penguins, giggling and cackling all the way. Clothes = bad. Naked = good.

Tongue olympics...
As you can see, Abby loves to twist, furl and stick out her tongue. She also has a strong need to show people her tongue twisting talents and will grab your arms, your face, and holler until you do take notice. Clearly, we don’t understand how amazing it all is.
