I don’t know about you, but now that the holidays are over, I’m ready for winter to end and spring to come as soon as possible. I feel as if I’ve become a hermit in my own house, and my kids are suffering from a serious case of cabin fever. Truthfully, we all are.
But thankfully, there appears to be a light at the end of the cold, dark, winter tunnel. According to our favorite groundhog Punxsutawney Phil, his shadow is suggesting only six more weeks of winter. Let’s all cross our fingers it’s a quick six weeks. M’kay?
So the end of winter countdown has officially begun for me, and you better believe I’m fighting my best fight to combat the all too familiar winter “blahs” that typically get me down this time of year.
10 Ways I’m Fighting the Winter Blahs:
I'm cleaning out my closet
The last few weeks of cold winter weather is the perfect opportunity to spend time purging out the old winter clothes (that I never wore), and making room for a few new spring pieces!
I'm enjoying seasonal hot beverages, while they last
I absolutely adore hot cider and flavored coffee drinks. I’m taking advantage of their limited in-store availability, while the season lasts!
I'm eating fresh
Every morning I’m making myself a breakfast smoothie packed with vitamins and nutrition. A healthy start to my day does wonders when it comes to combating the “blahs”.
I'm enjoying indoor activities without the guilt
In the warmer weather months, I often feel so guilty for going to a movie, or spending our days inside. But these last few weeks of winter have me celebrating indoor activities.
I'm seeking out natural light
If there is even a hit of natural sunlight to be found, I’ll find it. A brisk walk around the block, or maybe cup of tea in front of a window.
I'm planning our spring break vacation
In only a couple months, our family will be in Florida for a much needed spring break vacation. During these long and dreary days, I’m researching and planning the trip.
I'm indulging in comfort food
Cold winter weather is the perfect excuse to heat up the kitchen with cozy and nourishing comfort food.
I'm bringing nature inside
Buying fresh flowers for myself is a complete splurge, but totally worth the indulgence! Bringing home the sights and smells of spring lifts my spirits tremendously.
I'm treating myself to a fresh look
I only go to the salon for a hair cut and color a couple times a year, but when I leave, I feel refreshed and renewed. The weather outside might be frightful, but my new haircut is delightful!
I'm training for my first ever 1/2 marathon
It’s been a dream of mine for years now to run a 1/2 marathon road race. This year, I’m doing it and the training has begun. Having a fitness goal keeps me in-shape and focused.
How about you? What keeps you going, fighting the dreaded winter blahs?
