10 Unlikely Lullabies
Have you ever found yourself humming your favorite song — be it rock n’ roll, pop, or country — to your baby, and suddenly you realize it was meant to be a lullaby? Well, your lullaby at least? I have, and after asking around, it sounds like I’m not the only one. Here are a few of my favorites, along with some from readers of my personal blog.
Sing Baby to Sleep
When the tried and true classics aren’t working for you — or you’ve sung them all a thousand times — try one of the songs here. You might just be (very pleasantly) surprised.
Sweet Child O' Mine
Move over Axl, this Guns N’ Roses classic is all mine now. This has been one of my favorite songs since I was a kid, and now it brings tears to my eyes when I sing it to my little ones.
I Will
My oh-so musically inclined friend, John, says this is one of his (many) go-to songs.
Where is the Love?
Nicola says her two boys are calmed within three beats of Black Eyed Peas. This is one of their hip hop favs, along with Tonight’s Gonna Be a Good Night. Yes, really.
Carolina in My Mind
Aimee of Everyday Epistle says, “Though I would never pass up a chance to go to North Carolina, at 3 a.m. in the morning, I’d have gone anywhere to get some sleep!”
Mama Tried
Melissa of Tales of the Anti-Preemie serenades her miracle boy with Old 97′s version of this one.
Mannish Boy
Melissa of Tales of the Anti-Preemie also likes singing the blues. (Don’t we all sometimes?)
Tonight, Tonight
Nancy of TheMamaMaven.com said that with kid number three, they’ve moved on from Slow Dancing to this recent pop hit.
Cowboy Take Me Away
This is another one of my all time favorite songs … the perfect lullaby for my two (not-so-little-anymore) baby boys.
Cherish
What parent doesn’t cherish that little life that they hold in their hands. (Even when he Just. Won’t. Sleep…) I also don’t know many moms who don’t enjoy a little Madonna. Just sayin’.
