10 Reasons I Love Pacifiers
The pacifier mentioned in this post was provided free of charge by Disney Baby. To find out more about this item for purchase, please click here.
Both of my girls have been absolutely in love with their pacifiers. In fact, we just got rid of my 3-year-old’s pacifier last month (it was much less horrible than I’d imagined. There was probably a total of 3 minutes of tears).
I know some parents are not fans of pacifiers, but our family has absolutely loved them. For these 10 (and more!) reasons, I’m a huge proponent.
Why I'm Glad We Used Pacifiers
I don’t regret our pacifier use for a moment! Click through for the top reasons.
#1: Easy to take anywhere
Some soothing objects are more cumbersome to drag around (say, a large stuffed animal). A pacifier tucks easily into my purse or even a pocket!
#2: It's a great bedtime signal
Since we start, pretty early on, keeping the pacifier mostly for sleeping, popping it in lets my girls know it’s time to start winding down.
#3: Easy to replace
When my older daughter threw her (only!) pacifier out of the stroller in Disneyland and we didn’t notice it until it was too late, we were able to replace it quickly with a basically identical version.
#4: It kept them from sticking other things in their mouths
If we were outside (like this waterpark that was covered in pebbles and leaves), my girls didn’t want to put things in their mouths if they already had the pacifier in there.
#5: They sleep really well with them
This is probably the biggest reason I love the pacifier. My girls sleep like rocks if they have a pacifier.
#6: Feels familiar in a strange place
When we traveled or left our girls with babysitters, the pacifier was a welcome comfort and source of reassurance that both they and I (and I’m sure the babysitter) appreciated.
#7: I could get rid of it when I was ready
Unlike thumb sucking, when we decided that Ella was too old to have one, we could just throw it in the garbage. Done!
They just cost so little (a couple of bucks apiece), that it’s easy to pick up a new one if needed. And if it gets lost, it’s not a huge financial issue.
#9: We could ease off it gradually
In the beginning, we took the pacifier everywhere. Then we went to just car and crib, then only the crib, and then eventually only night sleep.
#10: They love it
My girls just love their pacifiers, and I like seeing them so happy when I pull it out.
