10 Reasons Grandparents Are Magical
We are beyond lucky to have two sets of grandparents living nearby who get to watch our baby grow up and I am so thankful for this. There is just something about going to your grandparent’s house that is kind of magical – it’s like a place where space and time (and rules!) don’t really exist.
Grandparents Are Magical
Parents are great, but grandparents are pretty magical.
1. They are baby whisperers
For some reason my baby sleeps way better for her grandmas than she does for me. When my mother-in-law babysits on Fridays she usually has no trouble getting Fern to nap and recently Fern had her first sleepover at my mom’s house and instead of the usual wake-ups that happen all throughout the night when she’s here – she only woke up once…at 5:45 a.m. and then slept in until 8:30! I don’t know what they put in the water, but it’s magical.
2. They let you play with all the things parents don't
Want to play with the drum your parents got in Africa that makes super loud noises? You know…the one they never let you play with? Well, grandparents have you covered.
3. They're fun
Grandparents don’t make you take medicine or wear shoes if you don’t want to. It’s play time all the time – because, grandparents can do that!
4. They're silly
Parents have to be serious sometimes since they are the ones with their little ones all the time, but grandparents can be just fun and silly.
5. They take their grandkids on fun adventures
Babies have to do all the boring day-to-day stuff with parents, but grandparents live a life of adventure and they love to take babies along for the ride.
6. They're super patient
Because they aren’t sleep-deprived and dealing with the day-to-day challenges of raising a child, they have a lot more patience when the challenging moments arise on their watch and often handle things with a lot more patience and grace than parents do.
7. They do all the voices in stories
Sometimes moms and dads forget to “do the voices” when they’re reading you stories, but grandparents never forget.
8. They give the best piggy back rides
A good piggyback ride is hard to come by, but grandpas have it down to a science.
9. They have fun, new stuff
Grandparents have fun things at their house that moms and dads don’t – in my baby’s case this happens to be a cat named Bianca to chase around.
10. They love you to the moon and back
Obviously the love of a grandparent and that of a parent is different, but grandparents have a special kind of love for their grandkids and it’s pretty special.
