10 Parenting Things I Never Thought Would Happen to Me

We’ve all been there, haven’t we?

Whether it’s something we said aloud we’d never do once we had children or just a thought we had while watching another parent, eventually we end up, at least once, doing many of those things.

Here are ten I can’t believe I’ve done!

  • #1: Be Overdue

    #1: Be Overdue

This was just one of those things I never thought would happen to me. I mean. . . .I’m a timely person. Surely my children would be on time too. I was so wrong, and I have an 8-day late baby and a 7-day late baby to prove it.

  • #2: Cold Cereal for Dinner

Sometimes, a day is just too long (or too short!) to make a real meal. Cold cereal to the rescue.

  • #3: Let My Child Walk Around in Public without Shoes

#3: Let My Child Walk Around in Public without Shoes

Sometimes, you just dash out of the house without realizing your child took off their shoes and. . .you’re just that mom.

  • #4: Let my child use a pacifier until they were past three-years-old

What can I say? I love my sleep.

  • #5: Put my child to bed more than an hour early

She can’t tell time, and the extra sleep won’t hurt her!

  • #6: Use a treat as bribery

If it didn’t work so well, I wouldn’t do it!

  • #7: Talk in Baby Talk

    #7: Talk in Baby Talk

It always embarrassed me so much to hear adults talking in baby talk to their children. Now I’m that adult!

  • #8: Throw away an article of clothing rather than taking it home to remove stains

#8: Throw away an article of clothing rather than taking it home to remove stains

Sometimes, if it’s not an item you particularly love, a big blowout means goodbye to that piece of clothing.

  • #9: Pretend not to hear my child waking up so my husband would get up

. . . and I could catch an extra ten minutes of sleep

  • #10: Sing along to a kid CD for ten minutes

And then realize I had no children in the car with me.
